About the project

We’re on the lookout for two actors with a flair for comedy to work with us on my new play in preparation for an invite-only industry sharing.

Spare Goose is an unfiltered comedy which takes an intimate look at the complicated nature of female friendships and what it means for someone to always have your back, even when they don’t always understand.

When Isabelle unexpectedly barges into Kate’s toilet cubicle and refuses to leave, Kate wants answers. Answers Isabelle isn’t ready to give. But with a final bridal fitting to get to, Kate must step into her best friend’s shoes to get her to open up before she misses the appointment and disappoints her perfectionist mother. As secrets are revealed and lies are uncovered, there’s an air that things are not the same. People change. People grow. People move on. And so do friendships. Don’t they?

The development of Spare Goose is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

The roles:

Please only apply for this job if you genuinely believe you meet the criteria below.

We are seeking two comedy actors who:

  • have experience in working with new writing at an early / R&D stage of development

  • are based in or able to commute to Nottingham (no relocation/travel costs provided)

Character descriptions
Kate and Isabelle are best friends. They've known each other since high school and have remained super close, but now Kate's getting married and things are changing, and cracks in their friendship are starting to appear.

Kate, female, early 30s
Kate is an image-conscious primary school teacher who thrives on structure and control. With her wedding just a month away, she's ticking off the final details including today's bridal fitting. She's direct, no nonsense, poised and composed.

Isabelle, female, early 30s
Isabelle is Kate's bridesmaid. She's a climate change ecologist whose life is far from sorted. Often led by impulse or instinct, Isabelle is playful and cheeky the kind of person who brings chaos with charm. Think personality hire!
